THEME: NEUROLOGY AS IT WILL BE IN THE YEAR 2000 AD
Recombinant DNA techniques in medicine and neurology have
taken rapid strides. In neurology, it is applied in the
identification of the control of hormone and enzyme synthesis
to brain peptides and transmitters. It is also used in the
diagnosis of viral encephalitis and other brain infections and to
identify the approach to the genesis of some brain tumours.
Our research group specialises in the application of
recombinant DNA technology in the analysis of human genetic
diseases, which include many rare genetic disorders.
Gene replacement therapy appears far fetched today, but this
will be the “miracle of the future” according to Prof. Rowland.
