I am extremely pleased to be included on the occasion of the 40th TS Srinivasan Oration. In 2000, I was honored to give the Oration, and I have been involved in the program in various capacities ever since. The list of Srinivasan Orators is most impressive, and includes international leaders in a variety of neurological and neuropsychiatric disciplines.

Mr. Venu Srinivasan’s sustained support and encouragement of the program has been critical to its success, both in attracting speakers who are at the top of their fields, and an ever-enlarging audience.

I also want to acknowledge the important role played by the esteemed clinician, Professor Srinivas, who was instrumental in helping persuade Mr. Srinivasan of the potential long-term importance of such a program. I look forward to the continued growth and development of the Oration, and I am certain that if the program’s present trajectory continues, the Srinivasan Oration will continue to be an essential component of bringing both national and international physicians and neuroscientists to India.
My congratulations to all who have helped bring the Srinivasan Oration to its present level of eminence.

The TS Srinivasan Oration delivered by the eminent Professor Ralph Sacco on February 9, 2020 was the 40th in this remarkable series.

This endowment oration was developed by Dr. Krishnamoorthy Srinivas, a pioneer of Indian neurology, and the inaugural Oration was delivered in 1980 in Chennai with the generous support of TS Srinivasan from the TVS Motor Company;

this support has been admirably maintained by Venu Srinivasan, current Chairman of TVS Motor Company. Bringing internationally recognized neurologists and neuroscientists to India each year as TS Srinivasan Orators allows Indian neurologists to interact with distinguished experts in the field.
Having the privilege of serving as the 2009 TS Srinivasan Orator remains a highlight of my career and provided me with a deep appreciation of how important philanthropic support has been for the growth and advancement of the clinical neurosciences in India.

The 41st year of the T. S. Srinivasan Endowment Oration is an occasion to celebrate.

The TS Srinivasan Trust has helped this greatly by supporting academic and community programs within India,by bringing a remarkable sequence of leading clinical neuroscientists to India for the T. S. Srinivasan Endowment Oration, and thus fostering interaction between Indian academics and clinicians and the rest of the world.

The impact of the oration and associated symposium may not be apparent immediately each year, but the sustained effect of this remarkable program has benefitted Neuroscience in India and beyond.
The marriage of informed and strategic philanthropy with good science has immense power for good, and that is what the T. S. Srinivasan Charitable Trust embodies. We look forward to an outstanding 41st year and beyond.
